Key points of JIS draft

The outline of the JIS draft in the following table is at the public opinion acceptance stage. They may be changed or corrected depending on the results of deliberation of JIS drafting & deliberation Committee instituted in the  Accredited Standards Developing Organization.

Standard number H1617
Standard title Titanium and titanium alloys-Determination of carbon-Infrared absorption method after combustion in an induction furnace
Objective This standard stipulates the method for determining carbon in titanium and titanium alloys by high-frequency induction heating combustion in an oxygen atmosphere followed by infrared absorption. This standard is being revised to enhance the content of the standard in light of recent trends in production and use.
The main revisions are as follows:
・In line with the change in the standard title to solely focus on the combustion-infrared absorption method, the name of the standard will be changed to ゛Titanium and titanium alloys -- Carbon determination method -- High-frequency induction heating combustion-infrared absorption method.゛
・In terms of the classification of quantitative methods, the quantitative method will be changed to ゛combustion-infrared absorption method゛ only, in line with the corresponding international standard and in line with the current state of the Japanese market, and methods other than combustion-infrared absorption method, such as combustion-sulfuric acid titration and combustion-conductivity, will be deleted.
・In terms of general matters, the method for weighing samples and compiling analytical values will be revised in accordance with the cited revisions to the JIS on general rules for analytical methods.
・In line with the corresponding international standard, a new clause will be added on reagents, specifying their specifications.
- In line with corresponding international standards, new clauses will be established to specify tolerances such as carbon content tolerance and parallel tolerance.
The number and equivalent nature sign of an international standard which were used as the foundation MOD ISO 13093:2023,Titanium and titanium alloys — Determination of carbon — Infrared absorption method after combustion in an induction furnace
International classification for standard, ICS 77.120.50
