| Standard title | Environmental management systems - Requirements with guidance for use |
| Objective |
This standard specifies the requirements for environmental management systems that organizations can use to improve their environmental performance, but in light of recent changes in the business environment and the reality of increasingly complex environmental issues, revisions are being made to enhance the content of the standard. The main revisions are as follows: - In understanding the organization and its context, the requirements related to climate change (Amendment 1) will be integrated, and to take into account that climate change is interrelated with other environmental conditions such as biodiversity, the requirement will be changed to state that ゛these issues shall include environmental conditions that are affected by or have the potential to affect the organization, such as pollution levels, the availability of natural resources, climate change, biodiversity, or the health of ecosystems.゛ ・In determining risks and opportunities, a new subclause ゛Risks and Opportunities゛ (Clause 6.1.4) will be created to clarify the process for determining risks and opportunities arising from environmental aspects, compliance obligations, etc., and the structure will be reorganized by adding a requirement stating, ゛An organization shall determine the risks and opportunities associated with its environmental aspects, compliance obligations, and other issues and requirements identified in 4.1 and 4.2.゛ ・In planning and managing changes, in order to ensure consistency with international standards (harmonized structure) and prevent ad hoc changes from having unintended adverse effects on the environmental management system, a requirement will be added (Clause 6.3) stating, ゛When an organization determines the need for changes that affect, or may have an impact on, the environmental management system, the changes shall be implemented in a planned manner. Changes shall be managed to ensure that the organization can achieve the intended outcome(s) of the environmental management system.゛ - In order to align operational planning and management with international standards (harmonized structure) and to clarify management of the entire supply chain based on a life cycle perspective, the previous expression ゛outsourced processes゛ will be revised to state that ゛the organization must ensure that externally provided processes, products or services that are related to the intended outcomes of the environmental management system are controlled or influenced.゛ |
