Title Test method of four wave mixing cross talk for optical amplifiers
Objective  DWDM optical fiber transmission systems are subject to significant performance limitations due to four-wave mixing (FWM) effects occurring within optical amplifiers. As transmission systems evolve to support wider signal bandwidths and a greater number of channels, the output power of optical amplifiers increases accordingly. This increases the impact of FWM-induced crosstalk on system performance and emphasizes the need for a standardized test method.
 Although IEC Technical report (TR 61292-7) provides reference information on test method for the FWM effect, it does not develop a formal International Standard (IS) for FWM crosstalk measurement. Consequently, manufactures and users of optical amplifiers currently rely on their own independent evaluation methods.
 This document specifies a standardized test method for FWM crosstalk, including its definition, test setup, equipment requirements, measurement procedures, result calculation, and reporting criteria.
